I am an editor, writer, lecturer, and programmer specialising in film and the history and culture of Eastern Europe. You can contact me via email.
My first book, Soviet Spectatorship: Observing the Body in Physical and Visual Culture, is available now from Bloomsbury.
I am the Editorial Director at Klassiki, a platform dedicated to classic and contemporary cinema from Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. I programme our streaming catalogue, arrange and introduce cinema screenings, and commission, edit, and write for our online magazine, the Klassiki Journal. I also produce and host the Klassiki Podcast and run partnerships with film festivals from across Europe.
I am an Affiliated Lecturer in the Slavonic Studies Section at the University of Cambridge, where I lectured and supervised on Russian and Soviet culture, language, and history from 2013-2022.
From 2017-2019, I was the Features Editor for The Calvert Journal, the foremost English-language publication on contemporary culture from Eastern Europe. In this time, I led several special projects on topics ranging from post-colonial Africa to LGBTQ culture.
My freelance writing on film and visual culture has appeared in Elephant, Tribune, postMatter, The Guardian, Times Literary Supplement, and others.
